GOODBYE AVONBELLES, HELLO AVON HARMONY

The Bristol based Avon Ladies Barbershop Chorus formerly known as ‘The Avonbelles’ is set to unveil its latest group line-up under new name Avon Harmony’ when they perform for crowds at the Kingsfield School, Kingswood on the evening of Saturday 17th July.

The formidable award-winning chorus made up of 30 ladies of varying ages from Bristol and the surrounding areas chose the new name as it is more representative of their type of singing.

Led by musical director Caroline Bamford, the choir is celebrating its 35th anniversary, having originally formed in 1975 and seen various line-ups over the years as registered members of the Ladies Association of British Barbershop Singers (LABBS).  The choir has also gone from strength to strength with the ladies last year returning triumphant from Cornwall’s Camborne Music Festival with the Adult Choir honours, as well as picking up numerous awards over the years from local festivals and Eisteddfods held across the country.

Musical director Caroline said:

Avon Harmony represents the next step for us.  Our ladies are extremely passionate about singing and the group is all about having fun along the way.  At the moment we’re in training for the forthcoming LABBS Convention in October, which this year is being held in Llandudno, and are excited to be taking the Bristol name nationwide yet again.  TV shows like Glee and musical films have really woken people up to signing again recently, so if any ladies out there are looking to warm up their vocal chords, come see us and get involved!
